Kitgum Municipality, Uganda — A man identified as Nyekorach Philip was arrested on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, during the ongoing police constable recruitment exercise in Kitgum District for allegedly presenting forged academic documents.
The arrest was confirmed by Inspector of Police (IP) Oloya Joe, the Public Relations Officer for Aswa East Region. According to IP Oloya, the suspect has been formally charged with forgery under Station Diary (SD) reference number 32/29/04/2025 and is currently detained at Kitgum Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Despite the incident, IP Oloya reiterated that the recruitment process was conducted with full transparency and integrity. “We remain committed to upholding the highest standards during all our recruitment exercises,” he stated.
The exercise was held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Aswa East, situated in Kitgum Municipality. It was overseen by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Barugahare Christopher, with Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Okae Ben Geoffrey, the Regional Police Commander for Aswa East, serving as deputy supervisor.
Authorities emphasized that stringent verification measures remain in place to ensure only qualified candidates are recruited into the Uganda Police Force.
