UEDCL TO TAKE OVER UGANDA'S POWER DISTRIBUTION FROM APRIL 1, 2025

Kampala, Uganda
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has officially announced that it will take over electricity distribution operations in Uganda starting April 1, 2025, as Umeme’s operations come to an end on March 31, 2025. This transition follows regulatory approvals under ERA Licenses No. ERA/LIC/DIS/024/231 & ERA/LIC/DIS/024/232.

UEDCL guarantees a seamless transition, assuring all customers that electricity services will continue without disruption. Any electricity units purchased before April 1, 2025, will remain valid and usable. Customers will still be able to buy and load power through existing platforms, including MTN, Airtel, banks, and other authorized vendors.

Public Caution Against Fraudsters

UEDCL warns the public to beware of fraudsters posing as officials. Unauthorized individuals may attempt to remove meters or spread misinformation about power supply. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest service center, police station, or local authority.
